T N R - Trap, Neuter & Release Program

Contact FRIENDS for information and tips on relocation of feral cats to stable cat colonies to help control over-population.

SHELTER SUPPORT

The Hancock County Animal Shelter is a municipal entity and is not owned or operated by FRIENDS. However, funds are designated to aid in purchasing medical supplies, equipment, and more. FRIENDS members and supporters also volunteer at the shelter and offsite events.

GUMBO FUND (Medical Aid Fund)

This fund was created to help stray animals who are brought to the shelter and need medical attention. It also helps defray costs involved in fostering for very young and ill admissions. All donations in memory of a loved one (furry and non) are designated for this fund. Additional donations are also welcome.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

FRIENDS provides outreach to the community to educate on pet care and animal control issues. Some of our efforts include:
  • Reading with FRIENDS where children read to animals. It cultivates compassion while improving children's reading skills.
  • Community seminars given at Hancock County Libraries on animal welfare topics
  • Visits to local schools to educate on the importance of responsible pet ownership and care
  • If you interested in hosting a seminar or us visiting your event, please email us by clicking here.
